Year 4 friendly football match v Mandeville

On Thursday a team of Year 4 boys played a friendly football match against Mandeville.  It was a good match although we were the stronger side and Luca didn't have much to do. We had quite a few shots on goal, with their goal keeper managing to save some of them.  The boys all played well with great team spirit.  The final score was 5-0 to us.

Year 6 Football Tournament

On Saturday the Year 6 Football team took part in the finals of the Year 6 Football Tournament.  During the group stage the boys had to play 5  short games of 10 minutes.  The first game was against Garden Fields and ended in a draw, then the boys began to grow in confidence and started to play great attacking football. We won the next 2 games and drew against Skyswood, our closest rivals.
It all came down the the last game, where either team could go through as group winners. We needed a win to go through as  winners or a draw to go through as runners up.  It was a very exciting game with chances at both ends, but we scored 2 lovely goals which took us to the finals to meet our old rivals Fleetville.
We knew it would be a tough game, but the boys were determined not to let Fleetville dominate.  It was a fantastic game with both teams working hard. We did have chances on goal but nothing would go in. Jack also made a few great saves.  At the end of full time it was still 0-0, so it went to extra time.  After 6 nail biting minutes neither team scored.  It was declared a draw and both teams shared  1st place.
What a brilliant end to the season.  I am really proud of the boys and their achievements this year and they should be too.  I hope they go on to enjoy their football in their new schools or clubs.
Thank you to all the parents for helping with lifts and supporting at the games.

Year 5 Hockey Tournament

Today, the whole of Year 5 enjoyed a taster of Field Hockey lead by Martin from St Albans Hockey Club. In the morning, the children learned skills which they then used in competition in the afternoon.

The children were split into house group teams and played a round robin of matches. once all the games had been tallied the result were very close and only goal difference split the teams with Ruby house being victorious.

Well done to all the children for the positive attitude and level of sportsmanship shown in the competition as there was constant encouragement within teams and shaking of hands at the end of each game.

Tag Rugby Festival

On 25th April, three teams from Year 5 and 6 took part in the St Albans Tag Rugby festival run by Saracens Rugby Club.

The 3 teams payed in separate pools playing excellently and winning some of their games with some amazing tries and brilliant defensive work tagging and intercepting.

Unfortunately non of the teams got through to the semi finals but all the children enjoyed themselves and represented the school brilliantly. Well done to them all and thank you to the parents who came to help with lifts and support the teams.

Year 5 Football Tournament Finals

On Saturday the team of year 5 and year 4 boys played in the final of the year 5 football tournament.  The first part of the tournament was the group stages during which the boys had to play 5 short games against other St Albans teams.  The boys played really well and grew with confidence for each game.  They won 2 games and drew 3 which was a very impressive run.  At the end of the group stage we drew on points with Bowmans Green in second place, however they went through on goal difference.
I think the boys should be very proud of themselves, well done.

Year 6 Football Tournament

On Wednesday the Year 6 football team took part in the Year 6 Football Tournament, preliminary round at Colney Heath Primary School.  There were 3 schools in that heat; Abbey, Colney Heath and ourselves.  We played Colney Heath first, getting off to a good start with an early goal.  We managed to hold on to that lead, winning 1-0.  Our second game was against Abbey.  We came out strongly and although they were a good team we were able to score twice, winning that game 2-0.
This means we are through to the finals on Saturday.
Well done boys.

Year 4 Hockey day

On Wednesday year 4 took part in the first of our Hockey days. (Each year group will have one)  They were lucky to have a hockey coach from St Albans Hockey Club.  In the morning each class  had a session with the coach teaching them the basic skills of playing hockey. Then in the afternoon all the children took part in a Level 1 hockey tournament playing for their house group.  Each team played at least 8 short games and it was great to see them using some of the skills they had learnt earlier in the day.   At the end of the tournament Ruby had won with the most points...well done Ruby!

Run a mile

We have recently introduced the 'Run a mile' into our fitness lessons.  Most year groups now run a mile once or twice a week.  The children can run, run and walk or walk the distance.  They all seem to be really enjoying taking part and challenge themselves to run further each session.  Certainly year 4 complain if they don't think we have given them long enough.
Running regularly is a great way to keep fit  and exercise helps children learn.
We will continue to do this over the summer term, the aim for the children is complete a half marathon distance (13.1 miles) and then a marathon distance (26.2 miles) over the coming weeks.

Football: Wix Cup semi final and final

On Tuesday the boys' A  team took part in the semi -final of the Wix Cup at St Albans City Football Club ground in Clarence Park.
We were drawn against Fleetville in the semi -final an extremely good team.  For the first ten minutes we were able to hold them off and despite several attacks they didn't score.  Eventually the pressure was too much and at the end of the first half Fleetville were 3 goals up.  In the second half we didn't give up and kept battling, but unfortunately despite our best efforts they scored another 2 goals, final score 5-0 to Fleetville.
The boys should be proud of themselves as this is a district wide cup competition and the boys had done really well to get this far.
