Year 5 Level 1 Tag rugby competition

To complete our module of Tag Rugby this term, Year 5 played in an inter house Tag Rugby competition. All the children used the skills and rules they have been learning throughout the spring brilliantly, playing flowing pacy games with lots of tries being scored. The games were played with amazing levels of fair play and sportsmanship (spontaneous handshakes at the end of games throughout) which lead to lots of fun for both children and teachers. By the end of the competition I think even some of the teachers wanted to join in the games (see Mr Lovett - holding the ball incorrectly in one hand - tut tut).

Well done to all the teams but once the scores were totaled it ended in a victory for Emerald. Also a thank you to my 2 roving photographers Martha and Daniel.

Wix Cup Quarter Final

On Wednesday the football A team took part in the quarter finals of the Wix Cup.  There were 9 teams from over the Hertfordshire district taking part, all who had come through various rounds, divided in to three groups or three teams.  Each team had to play two half hour games and the winners of each group, plus the best runner up would play the semi- final and final at Clarence Park.
We started off well winning our first game 1-0, after Jack saved a penalty.  In the second game we were up against a very strong side and in the first half they managed to score twice.  However, in the second half we held on, had a few chances and denied them any more goals so that the final score was 2-0 to Greneway.   Although we didn't win our group the boys were really excited to learn that we were the best runners up and go through through to the semi- finals at Clarence Park!
A fantastic result.

Dance Display

Apex Dance have been running a weekly dance club where a group of girls have enjoyed dancing as a group and learning new dance routines which on this week they performed to the rest of the school.  We were really impressed with the routine and the growing confidence of the girls.
Well done

Netball Club

Angelic!

Charming!
The netball season has come to a close so for the final session it was biscuits and onesie!
The girls have been great - committing every week to play in the freezing wind and quite often the rain. But whatever the weather, they come with enthusiasm and dedication. So thank you for all your hard work and also to parents who have helped with lifts to numerous away matches.
Miss Brown and Mrs Whithers.

End of season Netball Tournament 2016

On Saturday the 12th March, the Year 6 league netball team competed in a tournament at St Albans High School against local schools.
The girls played 5 matches and came came 5th. We played extremely well and worked together skilfully. Unfortunately one of our best wings, (Francesca) fell onto her hip and had to leave; fortunately nothing was badly damaged and she is fine now. Luckily, Mercy came on as a sub and was happy to take over.

Our best match was against Maple 6-0 where we passed accurately and the shooters were amazing!

Girls Football league vs St Alban and St Stephens

The girls final league match of the year was a great game. St Alban and St Stephens brought a strong team and both our girls and theirs played well. in the first half they had much of the possession and territory scoring 2 goals. As the half progressed and we moved into the second half our girls got on the ball more and grew in confidence, unfortunately the game had already got away and we had conceded 2 more goals before we made a great break away goal in reply. The game ended 4-1 to St Alban and St Stephens but the girls played with a great attitude and finished the game with a smile!

Well done to all the girls who have played this year, good luck to the Year 6's in future football at secondary school and I look forward to working again with the Year 5's next year.

Also, one final thank you to all the parents who have supported the girls through good times and bad, through sun and pouring rain and helped with lifts to many away games. Your help and support is very much appreciated!

National Skipping Day

On Friday all the children took part in the National Skipping Day following on from our Skipping Workshops earlier on in the year.  During the day all the classes went out and skipped for 15 minutes each, great exercise for everyone!

St Albans District Swimming Gala 2016

On Saturday our swimming team, made up of 6 girls and 6 boys from year 5 and 6 took part in the St Albans District Swimming Gala.  It is always a very exciting event and very loud.  The event consists of 3 individual races for breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle for boys and girls and then a freestyle relay and medley relay for girls and boys.   We started off very well with individual wins in 2 of the girls' events and 1 of the boys' events.  We also won both the girls' and boys' freestyle relays.
Once the points had been added up the final scores placed the boys second overall and the girls first, a truly amazing result for the children.
All the children swam brilliantly and helped towards our final position....well done.

Sports Relief Swimathon

On Saturday a group of year 6 and year 4 children took part in a swimathon at Westminster Lodge in aid of Sports Relief. The two year 6 teams; Bernards Heath Sharks and Bernards Heath Dolphins, made up of 5 boys each, had to swim 5k, an incredible total of 40 lengths each, while the year 4 team; Manson- Sadikot, made up of 3 children, swam 1.5k, an amazing total of 20 lengths each.
So far the three teams, through sponsorship, have raised a fantastic £978!!! and are still collecting.
A huge well done to all the children who took part for a great cause.

Sports Relief Muddy Challenge

On Friday we took over 100 children to take part in a Sport Relief Muddy Challenge at Garden Fields.
The children were divided into two groups; years 3 and 4 in one group and years 5 and 6 in the other. After a short warm up the children set off round the course, clambering over hay bales, hopping over hurdles, crawling under a net until finally they reached the main attraction....a mud bath...which many of them did bathe in!!  (Well the clue was in the name of the event!)  They then did it all again caked in mud.  The children really enjoyed themselves and it was fun to watch and all for a good cause.   Thanks to all the parents who helped us walk the children down and all of you who kept smiling despite the prospect of washing off all the mud.  Who needs electronic games..just give them mud!
